Welcome to the Humanities in Australia Today (HAT) project website.

The HAT project is a year-long Australian Research Council funded study, which will review current activity and likely trends in teaching and research across the academic humanities in Australia.

Throughout 2009, the Australian Academy of the Humanities is seeking the participation of scholars across Australia to help us form a complete picture of the humanities as currently arrayed.

In addition to collating statistical information about the humanities, we are running surveys, consultations and focus discussions to get a nuanced understanding of the key issues facing the sector today.

So, please, take a good look around the website. You’ll find latest news and project information, ‘roadshow’ updates, and links to our online surveys.

The Australian Academy of the Humanities is running a short online survey to find out more about the present challenges for humanities research and teaching, the characteristics of the humanities workkforce, and how and where the humanities have contracted and expanded across the university sector.
